Kylie Lip Kits (Candy K & Posie K) | Worth the Hype?

Welcome to my new beauty series!
I've been toying with the idea of starting one of these for quite a while as unfortunately I am one of those people who simply gets sucked into the hype surrounding products. Let's be real though, I'm sure we all do.

I'm going to be kicking off the series with possibly the most talked about make up products of early 2016 and yes, that is an extremely bold statement. As you can probably guess from the title and the photo, I'm going to be talking about the Kylie lip kits.

There's no denying that I'm a fan of the Kardashians and the Jenners. In fact, you'll most likely find me sat at home watching an episode of KUWTK 99% of the time. Saying that, I had never bought any of their products until now.

My initial thoughts... Not gonna lie, I was very skeptical about purchasing the lip kits. After hearing people's horror stories of their orders getting mixed up or simply not turning up, I was definitely worried. Not to mention how appalling the customer service seems to be, I hope that's something that is improved in time to come. It's worth mentioning too, that before receiving your lip kits, you could be hit with a pretty expensive customs charge. Paying roughly £12 customs on top of what you've already forked out on the actual products and delivery is not cool. Luckily, I didn't have to pay customs but I won't be purchasing anymore until a UK stockist is available.

Onto the cost... There's no denying that the cost of delivery is what catches most people out. Altogether I paid $72.95 for my order - that's $29 each for the lip kits and $14.95 for the delivery. In GBP it works out as £50.65, ouch. It's safe to say I couldn't afford anything else for the rest of the month, I don't recommend that haha!

My lip kits took roughly two weeks to arrive at my house, well technically at the post office as my postman decided one morning he was only going to wait at the door for 5 seconds before driving off in his lil red van. Rude.

(L-R Candy K, Posie K)

The actual products... So you're essentially getting two products for $29, a lip liner and a liquid lipstick, which I can totally justify. If you compare it to let's say MAC, their new Retro Matte liquid lipsticks retail at £21 meaning you are getting a pretty good deal with the Kylie lip kits.

The actual formula of the lip kits is incredible. You've probably heard that a bunch of times but they really are that good. The lip liners are incredibly creamy and pigmented which I would expect from a good quality product. I personally hate lip liners that you have to drag across your lips to get any colour.

Last but not least, the lipsticks themselves. I purchased the shades Candy K and Posie K which was probably the best decision ever, I'm obsessed. I adore the formula of the lipsticks and they aren't drying at all. Trust me, I know when a lip product is drying. As long as you apply a thin layer of the liquid lipstick, you won't know it's there. There's no patchiness, no crumbling and definitely no wanting to scratch your lips off unlike other lipsticks I've tried.

I haven't yet tried the lipsticks without the lip liner underneath, but I believe they work and feel exactly the same. I just love the look of my lips with both products on as the liner helps me to overline them with extreme precision, shaky hands and thin lip problems.

Worth the hype? Yes. Worth the price? No. The lip kits really are great products but until a UK/European stockist is found, they aren't worth making myself skint for the rest of the month.

I hope you like the idea of this new series! I'm looking forward to sharing more of my opinions with you on some craaazily overhyped products!

  1. So glad you did this post, I've been wanting to know what these are really like. I'll be waiting for a UK stockist as well!

    1. It's a tricky one when it comes to buying them. If they lowered the shipping or found a UK stockist I wouldn't hesitate in buying more! x

  2. The shipping really is the bitch isn't it! Esp if you do get customs, it gets crazy expensive!

  3. When I read predominately good reviews of the lip kits like this one, I'm always tempted into buying one for myself but I can't handle their awful customer service. If they ever sort themselves out as a company then I'd maybe buy something! Until then, I'll have to live vicariously through everyone else.

    1. I definitely agree, the formulas are similar to the Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks which in comparison to these are way cheaper! x

  5. Oh i'm so glad you did this! I've not bought any make up in AGES but was looking at these the other day. Obviously the price tag is ridiculous for me but I wondered what all the fuss was about :') They do sound fab but y'know.. I have other things that need paying for! xxx

  7. Omg I can't believe it racked up to that much!! They're so photogenic though... :)! I really want Posie K but only seem to manage to catch the stock when I'm skint! I am determined to grab some though. UK stockist would be easier, don't know why noone is yet?! x

    1. Pricey isn't it?! I agree with you, the fact that there aren't more stockists overseas yet worries me as that's usually one of the first things to occur. x

  8. Loved your review and this series! I'm already excited for what else you have in the pipe line!

I've just got my hands on one of the lip kits, I bought it off a friend and it's amazing! But I think I'll be doing the same as you, and just waiting for a UK stockist. I couldn't bare being charged customes and just the very long wait in general!

  12. Admittedly, I'm not a massive Kardashian/Jenner fan (I don't dislike them, I'm just not really interested in them) but I do love the idea of these (2 products in 1 etc..). They sound so good based on your review but like you, I'd prefer to buy from a UK stockist! Fingers crossed they'll start selling over here soon x

  14. I do really want to try them, but the price definitely gets me! I think I'll wait for a UK stockist, but with how horrible the customer service of the business seems to be, I can't see that being anytime soon :(

  15. They do look amazing and seem amazing on the lips, but like you mentioned, the price really puts me off and many people have had to pay customs, which again puts me off!

  16. Ah I've been waiting for this post ever since you tweeted about getting them! I ordered mine 2 weeks ago and am still waiting which I'm not very happy about since my friend ordered hers on the same day and she got her's last Thursday! I would love to see some pictures of them on your lips, especially as I ordered Candy K!

  17. Such a good read, really interesting to hear about the whole experience rather than just the excitement of them actually arriving. I love the sound of them but I hate paying customs so I think I will just wait until one day it'll hopefully be stocked here.

  18. I think you're right in saying that the price is a little 'ouch' but in my opinion it's definitely worth it! I managed to get my hands on Candy and Dolce on their first ever release, and then Posie, Mary Jo and Koko when they first got released and I also got 22 the first time round... However, when I bought two 22's I got charged customs - which hadn't happened before - and it made the cost of them totally insane. I've written three posts about these products and my dealing with the company, and while the price and customs charge really annoys me, its the hype that had killed the product for me. Since 22 I haven't bought again, purely because I don't agree with how they're running the business - it was cool at first when they were almost 'limited edition' because not very many people got their hands on them when they were selling out so quickly, but it's boring now and I wish she could just stay stocked up and the website open all day every day, like every other beauty retailer. I think because of the way they're always sold out they've been way over hyped, which is a shame because they're honestly a great great product!

    Sorry for the rant!

    1. I do love a long comment! You have such an interesting perspective but I do agree. I think the whole 'limited' number of products on sale is a bit old now and should just be a one time thing. xx

  19. The price of these scares me, I couldn't risk it with the customs, as I just know that I would be one of the unlucky people to get charged, if they ever come to a UK or European stockist then I may consider buying one, but as for now I'll wait x

  25. So shocking that Kylie Cosmetics were so underprepared for the demand! Honestly they could have spent a year building up a good quality stock and would have still sold out in a day. They do look like great products but there's no way I'll be buying them - even if they become available in the UK, I'm not giving money to a business that treats its customers the way Kylie Cosmetics does...

But thank you for reviewing them for everyone! I was very curious to see how they look :) x

  26. Great post hun. Been wanting a couple since they come out, but thought about waiting until I either go over there (whenever that may be), or until they start stocking over here. Completely forgot about the custom charge added on top so think I'll definitely be waiting now. They're not something I NEED in my life desperately.

  27. I've been wanting to try these for so long but once I'd worked out how much it was going to come to I decided not to until they start selling them over here! They do look amazing, but as a student I can't justify spending £45 of my months pay on a lipstick and lipliner, haha. Thank you for doing this post!

  29. You know I don't think they're worth it. Maybe the lip pencils but coming to find out the formula is somewhat the same as colourpopcosmetics. I would rather pay $5/$6 for a liquid lipstick instead $29 for one kit. We are really just paying for the name.

    Love your post though.

  30. I think I could wait for a European stockist to come or just get these when I go to the states in August as I wouldn't want to be charged anything extra seeing as they do take a large chunk out of your pocket. I love the shades you picked!
