Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks | Worth the Hype?

It's time for the second instalment of my 'Worth the Hype?' series! A couple of months ago I discussed the Kylie Lip Kits and shared my true opinions (as always) on them. This post is essentially going to follow the same format, only about the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks.

If you don't know who Jeffree Star is, get your butt to YouTube and have a watch of some of his videos right now - he's iconic, and so is his make up line. I somehow stumbled upon these lipsticks one night whilst people were buzzing on Twitter about the restock. After googling a few shades, and realising I had completely missed the restock, I just had to have them.

Luckily for me, Cocktail Cosmetics secretly restocked a couple of days later and I managed to snatch up Androgyny and Masochist, possibly the two most sought after shades.

My initial thoughts... After a slight mishap with the order I received, which can I just point out Cocktail Cosmetic's customer service is 10/10, I was so excited to swatch them and give them a go. I was a teensy bit skeptical at first upon trying these, simply because 1) They were £14 each and I was worried I had wasted my money and 2) I had no idea if the formula would be that good.

As I swatched Androgyny, it looked much darker than I remembered and appears as a deep purple with brown undertones. Saying that, it is a beautiful colour and I've gotten so much wear out of it. I really believe that the shades Jeffree Star has to offer would suit any skin tone!

Masochist is again, a beautiful colour and perfect if you like to finish your make up off with a bright lip. I have a feeling Masochist is going to be my go to lipstick of the summer, someone please remind me to take it on holiday with me.

The Cost... Each liquid lipstick comes to a cost of £14 on Cocktail Cosmetics, which I think is quite reasonable. If you're buying more than one, it gets a little pricey, but of course nowhere near the extortionate prices of say, the Kylie Lip Kits. If you're in the UK, I'd highly recommend purchasing from CC as opposed to the Jeffree Star website, because that way you know you're not gonna get hit with those sneaky customs charges.

The Formula... I actually cannot find a single fault with the formulation of these liquid lipsticks. They apply to my lips really smoothly (after I've exfoliated with my scrub) and don't cling to any dry patches. It's worth pointing out that I always wear lip balm under matte products, so I can't comment on how they feel without. To me, they are the most comfortable feeling liquid lipsticks I own and would recommend them to anyone who wants to give matte lips a go. It goes without saying that they last all day, but if you do need to re-apply after eating, you don't need to have the constant fear of "Will they crumble?" because no, they won't!

As with most liquid lipsticks, these are super opaque - therefore no lip liner is needed. Hallelujah.

Worth the hype? If you couldn't guess already, hell yeahhh they are. The range of shades is incredible and with Jeffree constantly releasing more and more, I dread to think how big my collection is going to be come Christmas. Next, I have my eye on the Skin Frosts, but I'm not sure whether I want to risk having them shipped from America... Eek!

I hope you're all enjoying this series and don't worry, I am going to review more products other than liquid lipsticks, I just gotta lotta love for them y'know.

  1. The formula in these is amazing and they always feel so good on! You also got great shades as well, I'd love to get masochist but it's always sold out.

  3. Omg! I've heard so much about these lipsticks and I'm desperate for one, now I've read your review I'm going to have to get one! If you order them from Cocktail Cosmetics do they ship from the UK? I think my family might kill me if I order any more lipsticks from America after everything that happened with my Kylie Lip Kit order!

  4. Agree 100%, Jeffree's formula is superb. Glad someone else thought Androgyny looked a little more purple than the initial photos, I thought I'd gotten a duff batch! Does yours tingle a bit when you put it on because mine definitely does XD

    1. Yeah Androgyny really threw me off once I swatched it, but I still love it so it's all good. I can't say I've noticed any tingling haha! x

  5. I've only recently stumbled upon Jeffree Star (don't love him so much as a person, but I love his makeup looks and his collabs with Manny so I just put up with him) and I need to try these lipsticks. I'm desperate to try Posh Spice, Celebrity Skin and Blue Velvet, but I feel like I want to save a bit before I try them. I'm also dying to try him new highlighters! However, I'm definitely sure I need them in my collection after your rave review!
