Kylie Mini Mattes | First Impressions

Well, well, well... Look what I got. Yep, I was one of the lucky few (or so it seems) that actually managed to get my hands on the Kylie Mini Mattes - I'M SO FREAKIN' HAPPY.

If you're into the whole Kylie Cosmetics range then you'll know about the mad scramble for the Birthday Edition collection, bloody hell it was manic. But seriously, people on Twitter need to calm the heck down. It really is not the end of the world if you didn't manage to get them ok guys, there are plenty other liquid lipsticks you can buy but whatever... Back to the point of this post.

For those of you who have been with me a long time, you'll already know that I reviewed Posie K and Candy K here earlier in the year. If you haven't read that post, then I suggest you do as this first impressions is going to be focused more on the colours as opposed to the formula - sorry!

The Formalities
The Mini Mattes took just over 2 weeks to get to my house and of course, I was greeted with a customs charge this time. I wasn't too mad though, I was kinda expecting it so all's good in the hood!

The Mini Mattes ended up costing me $50.95 including shipping, which converts to £38.79. Not too bad in my opinion considering you're getting 6 lipsticks out of it. But onto the nitty gritty, is the product actually worth your money?

So in the mini lipsticks you get 0.02 fl oz of product which really doesn't seem a lot in comparison to the full size in which you get 0.11 fl oz. Don't let this put you off though, I know they're gonna last me a good while and considering you get 6 completely different shades out of it, I think it's a pretty done deal.

I won't lie, I'm not awfully keen on the packaging the mini mattes came in. Don't get me wrong, I love the gold detailing on the lipsticks as opposed to the usual black, but on the box itself? It doesn't work for me. Black and gold for me will always be a winning colour combo but as you can probably see from my photos, the gold packaging gets super dirty, super quick. Bearing in mind I had only handled the box approx. 3 times, every little fingerprint shows up... But I suppose that isn't really important. Well, unless you carry the box with you everywhere.

As soon as I saw Kylie release the shades that were going to be in this bundle, I just had to have it. I had been eyeing up Kristen and Koko K for quite some time and was considering buying the full sized lip kits but then this little beauty came along. I was sold.

Exposed - The perfect brown toned nude. Definitely one of the more wearable everyday shades of the range.

Dolce K - A deep brown nude which is a classic Kylie shade. Gives me all the '90s vibes.

Koko K - A light mauve pink. Such a stunning colour but I feel it's not as opaque as the others.

Candy K - The classic nude with pink undertones. The colour of this tends to depend on your skin tone but an all round beautiful shade.

Kristen - Perfect for a classic Marilyn Monroe red lip. It. Is. Stunning. Kristen appears lighter on the lips than in swatches but as a good old Northerner would say, it's bloody lovely.

Leo - Brought out especially for Kylie's birthday, this lipstick is going to be a hit come Autumn. The formula is slightly patchy in comparison to the others but it's a gorgeous deep red with brown undertones.

And that's it! There are my thoughts on the Kylie Cosmetics Mini Mattes. I'm so happy I got them, as if I needed anymore liquid lipsticks. Pfft, of course I needed them!

Don't forget to check out my previous Kylie Lip Kit post if you're interested in my thoughts on the formula.

  5. Kristen looks stunning - it's just such a beautiful 'Marilyn Monroe' red, as you say! I always struggle with reds on me looking too warm, but this looks just right!

  6. They're so beautiful, you're so lucky you got the birthday collection! I think the minis are a great idea because you get enough shades to be able to variate between colours without running out really fast! - Maria | BeautyMatters

  7. I love all of these shades, I can't justify the hassle and price of getting myself some Kylie lip kits but you definitely got a winner here, they're so cute too!

  9. Can't work out if I'm missing out on something by not getting the lip kits or not! I see so many rave reviews but a fair few negative ones too and the struggle is so real. Gutted you had to pay customs this time but I guess it was bound to happen eventually! I like the look of Candy K and Dolce K but definitely think I'd have to try them for myself before buying them!

    1. You are definitely missing out hahaha. Nah but it's like with all companies, sometimes things go wrong but just because it's Kylie Jenner's brand - Everyone expects everything to be perfect haha! x

  10. I'm really starting to get into liquid lipsticks at the moment too! I don't think I would mind too much about the size - I don't ever remember a time when I've actually used up an entire lip product within the time you're meant to use it in! Leo looks like a fab shade, hopefully the next version of it (if one comes out) will be a bit less patchy

    1. If you aren't sure on what shades to get then I'd probably suggest Candy K and Exposed, but Posie K was one of the first I got and I'm just OBSESSED with it! x

  17. I think the mini set is a great idea for anyone wanting to collect these as we use so little product each time it's probably a lot better value for money. I wasn't a big fan of the Kylie lip products but love the colour selection here, I think Leo would be my favourite as I'm already thinking of Autumn.
